FamilyTime’s legal advocates can provide assistance and support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault as they engage with the criminal or civil legal system.

These services include obtaining and enforcing personal protection orders, pursuing divorce and child custody issues, other criminal matters as a result of the abuse. If the client requests, legal advocates can accompany law enforcement offices, prosecutors’ offices, and court for support. Legal advocates do not act as attorneys and do not provide legal advice. They are able to discuss legal rights and processes with the survivors. This allows each survivor the opportunity to make informed decision about engaging in the court process. FamilyTime’s legal advocates are able to make referrals to partner organizations for more complex legal matters.
